45 National Cruiser
The 45 National Cruiser is a type of sailboat with a sail area of 45 m². It was designed as an inland cruiser in 1911, and the first yachts were built in 1912 . The class regulations stipulate the following maximum dimensions: measured sail area 45 m², length overall 10.50 m, draft 1.20 m, weight at least 2400 kg. In addition, attention was paid to comfort when drawing up the building regulations.
This new class was particularly widespread on the Berlin lakes and in southern Germany. By 1925, more than 170 45s had been built, which turned out to be both fast regatta boats and comfortable touring boats. Then it remained silent for a long time about this class, until from 1990 the Martin Werft and later also the Glas Werft offered new editions of this classic and were able to build a total of over 20 modern 45s and sell them in southern Germany.
The 45s are still an active regatta class on Lake Constance today, in which lovingly and professionally restored "oldtimers" compete in class regattas against new builds without compensation and sometimes keep their (characteristic) nose ahead. The class association takes care of the preservation of this timeless traditional class.
