Rudolf Zorn (born December 24, 1893 in Kempten (Allgäu) , † January 21, 1966 in Munich ) was a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from the Humanities College Kempten anger took a degree in law and political science in Munich and Würzburg on which it 1920 with the graduation to the Dr. jur. finished. He then entered the Bavarian administrative service and was district administrator in Lichtenfels in 1926/27 . After the National Socialists came to power , he was briefly taken into " protective custody ". From 1934 to 1945 he worked in a cigarette factory in Dresden , initially as an employee and later as the company's chairman and trustee .

After the Second World War , Zorn returned to Bavaria and had been head of the State Office for Asset Management and Reparation since 1947. In 1948/49 he worked as in-house counsel in industry and from 1949 to 1963 director of the Bavarian Savings Banks and Giro Association. He was also a member of various supervisory and administrative boards.

Zorn was also active in literature, so he published works by Confucius and Machiavelli (partly under the pseudonym "Rudolf Wrede") .

Rudolf Zorn died in Munich on January 21, 1966. He was buried in the Evangelical Cemetery in Kempten .

Public offices

Zorn was mayor of the city ​​of Oppau ( Palatinate ) from 1927 to 1933 . On December 21, 1946, he was appointed Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs in the state government led by Prime Minister Hans Ehard . After the formation of a single CSU government, he left the government on September 20, 1947. From January 3, 1951 to June 19, 1951 he was Bavarian Minister of Finance .

Dr. Rudolf Zorn Foundation

Zorn set up the foundation named after him in his hometown, which he also generously considered in his will. The art advancement award of the Dr. Rudolf Zorn Foundation is endowed with 3,000 euros. It goes to visual artists from the Allgäu and is awarded annually as part of the Allgäu Festival Week. The foundation's assets were raised in 2008 from the estate of his wife Dr. Renate Zorn increased; it is administered by the city of Kempten (Allgäu). Distributions are made annually in the areas of culture and youth development.
