4th regiment de tirailleurs tunisiens
The 4e régiment de tirailleurs tunisia ( German 4. Tunisian Protect regiment ) was an infantry regiment of the French army , Armée de Terre . It was set up in Tunisia in 1884 and existed until the country became independent in 1956.
history
The regiment was set up with around 20-30% French cadres and Tunisian recruits. It served in Morocco as well as Indochina . During the First World War , it fought in Belgium and on French soil from August 1914 until the end of the war . In the interwar period she took part in the counterinsurgency in Syria .

During the Second World War , the unit fought briefly in France in 1940. She took on the side Forces françaises libres the Italian campaign in part. The unit also served in the Indochina War .

After the country gained independence, the unit was integrated into the Tunisian Army . However, the French and Tunisian members of the regiment decided in 1958 to return to French service. From them the 4e régiment de tirailleurs was set up in Algeria .
