55-63 Main Street (Kilsyth)

A residential and commercial building can be found at 55-63 Main Street in the Scottish town of Kilsyth in North Lanarkshire . It is right on the city's former main thoroughfare in an area that has now been calmed down into a pedestrian zone. In 1979 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B.

Construction began in 1904 and was completed the following year. As an architect, George Hay was responsible for the planning and designed a three-story building with motifs of Art Nouveau architecture. It has five window axes and is made of red ashlar. Shops are set up on the ground floor, while the remaining parts of the building are used as living space. The windows of the upper floors of ornate window surrounds framed. The ornate cornice on the facade surface is supported by blind pillars on the building edges. The ground-level shop windows are decorated with a cornice. The entrance doors have partially engraved panes and are crowned by onion-shaped skylights . At number 55, some of the original wood paneling and painted glasses have been preserved.
