5th Cell is an independently owned US game development company based in Bellevue, Washington . That as 5th Cell Media LLC. Founded by Joseph M. Tringali , Jeremiah Slaczka and Brett Caird , company develops video games for the Nintendo DS and Wii .

history

Founded in 2003, the company began developing mobile games, working with publishers such as THQ Wireless , JAMDAT Mobile (now EA Mobile ) and UIEvolution (a former subsidiary of Square Enix ). On August 2nd, 2004, THQ Wireless announced that 5th Cell will release the three mobile games Siege, SEAL Team 6 and finally Mini Poccha.

In 2006, the transition to Nintendo DS and casual game development began. While 5th Cell used to work with licenses, it has now shifted its core to developing innovative video games. On April 21, 2006, 5th Cell announced that it would be the first Nintendo DS game to bring Drawn to Life out. The game was released in September 2007 and was published by THQ . In September 2008 their second DS game, the real-time strategy game Lock's Quest, was released .

On December 5th, 2008, 5th Cell announced their next Nintendo DS game called Scribblenauts . On May 1, 2009, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced that they would be the publisher of Scribblenauts. The game was released on September 15, 2009 in North America, the Australian version was released on September 30, the European version on October 9. According to the NPD Group , 5th Cell sold 194,000 units of Scribblenauts in the United States in the month of its release. In the following years, Super Scribblenauts , Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Unmasked were some of the successors to the game.

2015 tried 5th Cell, on the crowdfunding website fig.co the development of their new project Anchors in the drift to finance. However, the action role-playing game based on the free-to-play concept did not reach the funding target of US $ 500,000 and therefore did not materialize.

Then 5th Cell began developing a Scribblenauts offshoot called Scribblenauts: Fighting Words for iOS . On March 24, 2016, it was announced that the game had been discontinued by publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. 5th Cell then had to lay off 45 employees and largely cease operations. However, creative director Jeremiah Slaczka emphasized in a statement that the developer studio still existed.
