65 Broadway (middle building)

65 Broadway, also known as the Standards and Poor Building (formerly also known as the American Express Building ), is a 21-story skyscraper in the financial district of Manhattan in New York City . It was built from 1914 to 1917 to plans by James L. Aspinwall of Renwick, Aspinwall & Tucker. The neoclassical building is located in close proximity to Trinity Church and borders the Adams Express Building to the south and the Empire Building to the north .

history

Like many high-rises in the district, the building was commissioned by banks and insurance companies, such as the American Surety Building and 1 Wall Street by the Irving Trust. Until 1975, 65 Broadway was the headquarters of the financial services company American Express . In 1995 the building was listed by the Landmarks Preservation Commission .
