The 70 kV line from Mulhouse to Freiburg was one of the first high-voltage transmission lines in what was once Baden . It was built in 1913 by the then Oberrheinische Kraftwerke AG after an agreement was concluded in 1912 to supply the city of Freiburg with electricity from a power station in Mulhouse .

The 50-kilometer line began on Napoleon Island in Mulhouse, crossed the Rhine on two 32-meter-high lattice masts and ended at what was then the transformer station in Freiburg-Haslach . The entire length of the single-circuit line was laid on lattice masts and used insulators standing on the trusses. The line was only allowed to cross numerous paths with a span of maximum 30 meters in length, with the masts having to be erected at least 1.5 meters from the roadside.

The line went into operation in March 1914. Some sections of this line are still in operation today, but as parts of 20 kV medium-voltage lines.
