The 77th Infantry Division was a German infantry division during World War II . The division was set up on January 15, 1944 at the Münsingen military training area and then stationed on the French Channel coast near Caen . In 1944 she was involved in fighting against Western Allied forces in Normandy, France. During these battles the division was severely decimated and trapped near St. Malo .
