from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 85th Infantry Division was a German infantry division during World War II . The division was set up on February 2, 1944 and then stationed on the French Channel coast. In 1944 she was involved in fighting against Western Allied forces in Normandy, France. During these battles, the division was severely decimated and had to be reorganized on the Lower Rhine in September 1944. During fighting in early March 1945 in the Eifel, the division was broken up again. As a result, the unit had to be set up again on April 29, 1945 for the third time, this time at the Döberitz military training area near Berlin . Following the reorganization, the division was renamed the Potsdam Infantry Division on April 8, 1945 .
