189th Reserve Division (Wehrmacht)

The 189th Reserve Division was a German infantry division during World War II . The division was set up on September 26, 1942 in Friedberg and was then stationed in central France. On December 6, 1942, it was renamed the 89th Infantry Division (B). On May 20, 1943 it was regrouped and renamed the 189th Reserve Division. In the fighting following the Allied landing in Normandy, the unit suffered heavy losses and was blown up. On October 8, 1944, the 189th Reserve Division on the Upper Rhine was renamed, refreshed and reorganized into 189th Infantry Division . In February 1945 the unit was broken up during fighting in Alsace .

A planned re-formation of the 189th Infantry Division on March 24, 1945 was canceled shortly thereafter.
