182nd Reserve Division (Wehrmacht)

The 182nd Reserve Division was a major unit of the army of the German Wehrmacht during World War II .

Division history

182nd Division

The division was set up on November 7, 1939 as a replacement division in Lodz for the military district XXI from parts of the replacement troops 2./XII and renamed at the end of the year.

Division No. 182

The name was changed to Division No. 182 and this was moved to Wehrkreis XII in Koblenz in August 1940 . In mid-1941 the division was relocated to Nancy .

182nd Reserve Division / Gümbel Division

From July 1942, the division's alarm units marched near Paris to Dravail . It was named both the 182nd Reserve Division and after the division commander Division Gümbel .

182nd Reserve Division / Karl Division

Dis Division Karl was born on 3 August 1942 to Auray in Brittany on the march. The 282nd Infantry Division emerged from this in March 1943 .

182nd Reserve Division

The remaining units of the Karl division formed a poorly equipped training division. In the fighting following the Allied landing in Normandy in the summer of 1944, the association was completely wiped out.

In mid-October 1944, a new 182nd Reserve Division was set up in Slovakia . On April 1, 1945, the association was reclassified and renamed the 182nd Infantry Division.

182nd Infantry Division

The division was active for Army Group South and the 8th Army in Slovakia until the end of the war .
