Ostrowo ( German Ostrowen , 1938 to 1945 Mühlhof ) is a small settlement in the northeast of the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , which belongs to the rural municipality of Dubeninki (Dubeningken , 1938 to 1945 Dubeningen) in the Gołdap (Goldap) district.
Geographical location
Ostrowo is located on the east bank of the river Jarka ( German Jarke ), as the upper reaches of the Gołdapa ( German Goldap ) is called here, before it flows into the Gołdap ( German Goldaper See , Russian: Osero Krasnoje) after a few kilometers . The district town of Gołdap (Goldap) lies in a north-westerly direction.
history
The former Ostrowen was a small manor village, which was incorporated into the newly established district of Rogainen in 1874. It was part of the Goldap district in the Gumbinnen administrative district of the Prussian province of East Prussia .
In 1910 Ostroven had 29 inhabitants. On October 31, 1928, the place gave up its independence and was incorporated into the rural community Langensee (until 1910: Kotziolken , Polish: Kociołki).
After it was renamed “Mühlhof” on June 3, 1938, the village came to Poland in 1945 with all of southern East Prussia following the war , where it has since been called “Ostrowo”. Today it is part of the Gmina Dubeninki association in the Gołdapski powiat and has been part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship since 1998 , and before that it was part of the Suwałki Voivodeship .
Religions
Before 1945 the population of Ostrowen was resp. Mühlhof's predominantly Protestant denomination and the village parish in the parish of the Gurnen church. It was part of the church district Goldap in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . The few Catholics were oriented towards their parish church in Goldap in the Diocese of Warmia .
The majority of Ostrovo's residents have been Catholic since 1945, and the parish church is now the former Evangelical church in Górne . She belongs to the Dean's Office Gołdap in the Diocese of Ełk (Lyck) of the Catholic Church in Poland . The few Protestant church members belong to the parish in Gołdap , a branch parish of the parish in Suwałki in the Masurian diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Poland .

The small village of Ostrowo leads a somewhat isolated existence on an insignificant side street that connects Pluszkiejmy (Plautzkehmen , Engern , 1938-1945 ) on the 651 voivodship road with Górne (Gurnen) . It is eleven kilometers to the district town of Gołdap .
Until 1945 Meschkrupchen (1938 to 1945: Meschen, Polish: Meszno) was the next train station and was on the Goldap – Szittkehmen / Wehrkirchen railway line, also known as the “Kaiserbahn” , which was abandoned as a result of the war. Until 1993 there was still another possibility of a rail connection via the station in Górne on the Ełk – Tschernjachowsk (Lyck – Insterburg) railway line , which was initially only available for freight traffic, but was then completely closed.
