geography

Tuniszki is located 21 kilometers east of the district town of Gołdap, southeast of Lake Loyer (1938 to 1945: Lake Loier, Jezioro Przerośl in Polish ). In the immediate spatial proximity, the border is between the provinces Masuria and Podlachien , in turn, marked with small deviations, the former German-Polish border.

history

The village, then called Uppidamiskeinen , was founded in 1557/1558. In the following years it was called Tunnischken (before 1730), Uppidamischkehmen (before 1740), Tunischken (around 1785) and Upidamischken (until 1938). Before 1945 the place consisted of a few small farms and a customs house.

In 1874 the town was in the newly built office district Loyen integrated, the - 1939 renamed "District Loien" - to 1945 and for district Goldap in Administrative district Gumbinnen the Prussian province of East Prussia belonged.

The population of Upidamishken was 70 in 1910. It decreased to 46 by 1933 and increased to 50 by 1939.

On June 3rd - officially confirmed on July 16th - of the year 1938 Upidamishken was renamed "Altenzoll".

As a result of the war, the village came to Poland in 1945 and was named "Tuniszki". Today it is only a small settlement and a village in the Gmina Dubeninki association in the powiat Gołdapski in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

church

The vast majority of the population of Upidamishk or Altenzoll was Protestant before 1945 . The place belonged to the parish of the church Dubeningken in the church district Goldap within the church province East Prussia of the church of the Old Prussian Union . The few Catholics belonged to the parish in Goldap in the Diocese of Warmia .

After 1945 the situation changed: the majority of the population is Catholic and is now oriented towards Dubeninki, where the former Protestant church is now its parish church. It is part of the deanery Filipów in the diocese Elk (Lyck) of the Catholic Church in Poland . Protestant church members living here are incorporated into the Gołdap parish, a branch parish of Suwałki in the Masurian diocese of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .

traffic

Tuniszki is located on a side road that connects the voivodship road DW 651 near Linowo (Linnawen , 1938 to 1945 Linnau) with the voivodship road DW 652 near Jemieliste and is thus the link between the Warmia-Masurian and Podlaskie voivodeships. A railway connection has not existed since the Goldap – Szittkehmen (Wehrkirchen) railway line, also known as the “Kaiserbahn”, with the nearest railway station Dubeningken / Dubeninki, was decommissioned as a result of the war.
