8 day clock

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An 8-day watch is a mechanical clock with a clockwork that lasts at least 168 hours or one week .

With an 8-day watch, manual winding is necessary after a week. An early patent for an eight-day pocket watch was filed by Irenée Aubry in 1888 and granted on January 10, 1889. The clock was named Hebdomas ( Greek griechβδομάς , Latin hebdomada = week). For large clocks and pendulum clocks , an 8-day movement is nothing unusual. 8-day clocks were also used on the first airplanes and automobiles , such as the Maybach Zeppelin DS 8m .
