The 8 × 58 mm R cartridge was introduced in Denmark in 1890 as ammunition for the Krag-Jörgensen infantry rifle . A copper jacket round head bullet with a lead core was used. In 1892 the cartridges were modified with a copper-nickel jacket. From 1909 a pointed storey was introduced. Since the cartridge was already obsolete during the Second World War , it was discontinued in Denmark after 1945.
