Ain Beida ( Arabic عين البيضاء, DMG ʿAin al-Baiḍāʾ ) is a municipality and the largest city in the province of Umm al-Bawāqī in northern Algeria with 116,064 inhabitants (as of 2008). The city is southeast of Constantine .
history
The city center still has a garden that houses Roman ruins including underground tunnels, indicating that the city has a long and rich history. The previous name in Roman times was Marcimani. The city was a strategic city in Roman times and bordered the Baghai state. The Chaoui Berber tribe inhabited and ruled the area near Ain Beida (east of the Umm al-Bawāqīi district) throughout history and defended it many times.
