AWD (motorcycle manufacturer)
AWD (acronym for August Wurring, Düsseldorf ) was an ambitious small motorcycle manufacturer with an excellent reputation for quality from 1921 to the 1960s . The manufacturer was in today Ratingen belonging place Breitscheid suggesting and not in Dusseldorf, as the acronym. He built built-in motors from various manufacturers ( JLO , JAP and others). The motorcycles were only built to order in one-off production , a total of over 1000 pieces. Today they are rare.
August Wurring (1901 - 1990) also manufactured frames for racing motorcycles and go-karts . Towards the end of his career, he ran a car dealership.
In the former workshop there is now a motorcycle museum of the former brand AWD, which is run by the grandson of the company founder.
