AEConnect-1 ( AEC for short ) is a submarine cable that connects Europe and North America . It was put into operation in January 2016. Originally, it should have been put into operation as Emerald Express in December 2014 . With Hibernia Express , another transatlantic cable went into operation in September 2015.
The cable runs from Ireland through the Atlantic Ocean to the USA and thus connects Europe with North America .
