AFESIP

AFESIP ( Agir pour les Femmes en Situation Précaire ) is an international aid organization that was founded in 1997 by the Cambodian Somaly Mam . It is based in Phnom Penh .

In May 2014 Newsweek published a cover story according to which the biography of Somaly Mam is fictitious and has repeatedly led young women to present fabricated stories of sexual exploitation to the media (also in the USA and France). Mam then resigned from all of her offices.

Areas of application and activities

The association helps children and women out of prostitution and to find an independent life. In order to integrate into society, they are offered the opportunity to find and develop their skills and interests in various courses. Further, AIDS operated EDUCATION. The association is mainly active in Cambodia . Other areas of application are the neighboring countries Laos , Vietnam and Thailand . The association is also active in Europe by campaigning against human trafficking and child prostitution in Spain . One of the goals of this aid organization is the fair trade in clothing. It supports projects in Cambodia and Vietnam to produce high quality textiles that are sold at a fair price.
