Samuel "Sam" Lloyd (born November 12, 1963 in Weston , Vermont , † April 30, 2020 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor and musician of Welsh origin.

Life

Sam Lloyd was the son of actor Sam Lloyd Sr. and nephew of film actor Christopher Lloyd . Between 1989 and 2019 he was in front of the camera for around 70 film and television productions, mostly as a supporting actor. One of his best-known roles was the unstable hospital attorney Theodore "Ted" Buckland in the hit series Scrubs . In addition to acting, Lloyd ran an a cappella group called The Blanks , which had several guest appearances on Scrubs under the name "The Worthless Peons" (in the German dubbing "Die werblichen Versager") . In addition, since 1983 he has been the bass player for the Beatles co-band " The Butties ".

On January 17, 2019, Lloyd was diagnosed with a brain tumor that was classified as inoperable during surgery. The origin of this tumor was metastatic lung cancer , which, in addition to the brain, also metastasized to the liver , spine and lower jaw . On April 10, 2019, Lloyd announced that the targeted treatment of his tumor had worked and that it had halved in size. On May 2, 2019, he spoke again about his situation. The tumor in the brain is no longer there. However, this does not mean that cancer has been defeated. Rather, his treating doctors predicted that Lloyd could live healthy and uncomplicated for about a year. The effectiveness of his drugs is on average about three years. On October 17, 2019, Lloyd released his last update on his health. A large tumor in the lung near the aorta has disappeared and there are still two barely detectable tumors in his lungs and liver.

Despite the progress made in the treatment of his illness, he did not survive it. He died in Los Angeles on April 30, 2020 . Lloyd's family announced his death in the GoFundMe campaign launched to fund treatment costs.

Lloyd has a son who was born just weeks before he was diagnosed with cancer and was named after the town he was born in, Weston .
