The AKA eraser factory in Hanover , also called Ferd. Marx. & Co. operates , was one of the oldest Radiergummispezialfabriken and is considered a pioneer of erasers as branded goods . The company existed from 1893 to 1999.

history

In 1893 Ferdinand Marx and Friedrich Ramhorst opened their factory in Fernroder Straße . They later moved their business to Hallerstrasse .

As early as the time of the First World War in 1916, the company advertised its various brands as "Europe's largest special eraser factory", for example in the German Levante newspaper , including AKA and the soft rubber brand Elefant for architecture and drawing offices. The brands Hirsch, Jockey, Perplex, Tiger and Leopard also became known later.

In 1925 the son of the company founder, Max Ramhorst, introduced the company name AKA Eraser Factory. With various types of erasers popular because of their design, the eraser developed as a branded item.

After the destruction caused by the air raids on Hanover in World War II , production at the old location was renamed AKA-Gummiwarenfabrik Ferd. Marx & Co. in Hallerstrasse 37 was rebuilt and expanded into a company with worldwide export business.

In 1967, in addition to erasers, rubber rings and bands were also produced, as well as writing, office machine and telephone pads, but also page turner, stamp pads and stamp moisteners. About 50 percent of total sales were achieved through exports to Europe and overseas.

In 1999 the company was closed.
