The AKG C451 is a condenser microphone from the Austrian manufacturer AKG Acoustics . Produced since 1969, it is used worldwide and can be used for vocal and instrument pickups.

history

The first AKG C 451-C was built in 1969. With the built-in CK-1 capsule, it was AKG's first small-diaphragm condenser microphone with low-noise FET technology . The well-balanced frequency response and the modular design, valued by sound engineers, contributed to its widespread use. The “CMS” (Condenser Modular System) was continued into the 1990s when AKG replaced this system with a new model range, which is called “C 451 B”.

In 2012 AKG launched a “65th Anniversary” edition of the C451B, with a “cosmetic upgrade” of the C 451B. A CK1 Cardioid capsule is used. A switch can be used to switch a 3-way high-pass (flat, 75 Hz , 150 Hz) and attenuation in three stages ( 0 dB , -10 dB, -20 dB).

Today the AKG C 451 is a standard part in the material lists of many studios, orchestras, promoters and PA rental companies. It is still considered to be absolutely " suitable for riders " and is expressly prescribed by the sound engineer for some applications .

Operational applications

The directional microphone with a cardioid polar pattern has a very balanced, linear frequency response over a wide range. At about 12 kHz there is a slight increase, which makes it particularly popular for picking up and picking up instruments with a high treble component, for example percussion cymbals. But it is also used for guitar, strings , harp , grand piano and percussion instruments . Especially for outdoor applications, it is often chosen because of permissible for an operating temperature range up to + -20 to 60 ° C is.
