The AK Steel Corporation is an American steel producer headquartered in West Chester Township in Ohio .

history

AK Steel was founded in 1899 as The American Rolling Mill Company (ARMCO for short) in Middletown , Ohio. In 1910, the company opened another facility in Ashland , Kentucky . In the late 1940s, the company name was changed to Armco Steel Corporation.

In 1978 the company was renamed Armco Inc. again and in 1985 the company headquarters were relocated to New Jersey . Just a few years later, the company entered into a partnership with the Kawasaki Steel Corporation and the Itōchū Shōji .

AK Steel has had its current name since 1994 and has been based in West Chester Township, Ohio since 2007. Between 2008 and 2011, AK Steel was listed on the S&P 500 on the New York Stock Exchange .

In 2015, AK Steel produced a little over 6 million tons of steel, especially ARMCO iron , unalloyed steels, stainless steels and electrical steel .
