The AM-expenditures were postage stamps ( stamps ) immediately during and after the occupation of Germany , first from the US , and later by the British occupation forces were issued.

background

In the run-up to the occupation of Germany in the course of World War II in 1944/1945, the reorganization of the civil administration was also planned. The further use of German postage stamps with National Socialist motifs - or even the permanent series with a Hitler portrait - was prohibited.

In the summer of 1944, stamps were printed for this purpose in the US state printing plant in Washington DC and shipped to Europe on September 9, 1944. This first edition ("American edition") covered nine denominations.

history

The different perforation: United Kingdom - USA - Germany

The Reichspost ceased its work in the areas directly affected by the fighting. On October 20, 1944, US troops became the first major German city to occupy Aachen . The operational structures and the work of the German Post were reactivated in the occupied territories and the post offices were given the new stamps. The date and place of the first edition was March 19, 1945 and Aachen.

The scope of the AM edition was subsequently extended to the entire Bizone , with the result that the next editions were printed in London ("English editions") and then others in Braunschweig ("German editions"). Due to these circumstances and the difficult situation in the immediate post-war period, the editions differ considerably in terms of perforation , paper and color and there are also many printing deviations and printing plate errors .

A total of 20 denominations appeared in 35 editions, the last one on January 17, 1946 the value of 1 RM . The series was replaced by the control council edition, which appeared from June 21, 1948 and shows workers.
