Postage stamp issues of the American and British zones in Germany

Export fair Hanover 1949 (block number 1)

The stamp issues from the American-British occupation zone were initially issued from March 19, 1945 to early 1946 in the Reichsmark currency . From February 1946 to the beginning of 1947, stamps of the Control Council , i.e. for the bizone and the Soviet occupation zone, were issued together. After the Allies broke up in May 1948, from June 21, 1948, new or old control council issues were issued in the currency DM . The last issues of the Bizone on the occasion of the 200th birthday of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe came out on August 15, 1949, followed by the first issues of the newly founded Federal Republic of Germany on September 7 . The total of 20 stamps from 1945 are divided into three series after printing in the three countries USA , Great Britain and Germany, whereby these can be clearly assigned and are also listed separately in the standard literature for stamp collectors. Also in the 61 issues of definitive stamps from 1948 to 1949 there were many distinguishable varieties of the same stamps due to the general lack of the post-war period. There were also 12 special stamps , three of which were also issued as a stamp block.
