Postage stamp in blue

The yellow cathedral is a never issued postage stamp of the Deutsche Post . From September 1, 1948, a new series of stamps, the building series, was introduced in the American and British zones of Germany under Allied occupation. One of the planned motifs was the Cologne Cathedral with a value of five pfennigs in the color yellow. The stamp was intended as a supplement for airmail delivery.

The stamp actually issued was blue ( Michel catalog number 75 : Allied Occupation (American and British Zone), 1948), the yellow prints were destroyed with the exception of a few copies. So far, three auctions of individual brands are known.

The only complete sheet of stamps was shown for the first time from September 20-22 , 2007 at the Philatelia and MünzExpo in Cologne . The copy comes from the Bonn Philately Archives of the Museum Foundation Post and Telecommunications . The insurance value of this sheet is one million euros.
