Postage stamp issues of the French zone Württemberg-Hohenzollern
The stamp issues from the French zone Württemberg-Hohenzollern were issued between June 15, 1947 and October 4, 1949. Before that, general editions were published between 1945 and 1947 that were valid in the entire French occupation zone, including today's Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland .
The total of 52 stamps and the stamp block with four stamps of the Allied occupying power were mainly characterized by three series with repeatedly the same motifs (personalities and buildings). The first series (Michel numbers 1 to 13) was issued in Reichsmark currency from June 1947 and was valid until June 20, 1948. After that, only tenfold frankings were tolerated in very rare cases until June 23, 1948. With the currency reform and the introduction of the Deutsche Mark , new editions became necessary. The stamps of the same motif of the second series (Michel numbers 14-27) differ mainly in changed colors and partly in new value levels. A third series (Michel numbers 28-37) with partially different denominations dispensed with the denomination of pennies. After that, special stamps appeared on various occasions.
From October 3, 1949, these stamps could be used in the entire federal territory ( Trizone ) as well as in the Austrian customs exclusion areas ( Kleinwalsertal and Jungholz ) and from October 27, 1949 also in the western sectors of Berlin until the respective end of their validity, at most March 31, 1950 , be used. By order 191/1949 of the central post office of the French zone, the postage stamps of the Federal Republic of Germany were also sold in Württemberg-Hohenzollern from September 19, 1949 . The compulsory surcharge mark Notopfer Berlin had to be used from January 10, 1949 to the end of May 1949 and then again from January 1, 1950 to March 31, 1956. Between July 1 and December 31, 1949, due to the Württemberg law of June 24, 1949, the housing tax stamp had to be used, otherwise the mail would be returned to the sender. The sale of these stamps ended on December 29, 1949. From that day onwards, the Berlin emergency sacrifice stamps were sold and approved again in Württemberg-Hohenzollern.
Compulsory surcharge stamps - housing tax
In the French occupation zone Württemberg-Hohenzollern, due to the law for the promotion of social housing of June 24, 1949 (Reg.Bl. p. 213), the mandatory tax stamps (Notopfer Berlin) were provided with the red overprint "Housing tax" and used from July 1 to September 13, 1949. Michel No. 1 cut; Michel number 2 perforated. Remaining stocks have been used up. After that, up to December 31, 1949, there were own yellow-orange-colored housing brands, (Michel No. 3). At the upper edge of the brand image, in a white bar that fills the entire width, in yellow antiqua script is the word "WOHNUNGSBAUABGABE" and under it "STEUER-2-MARKE". A lower white bar shows the words "WÜRTTEMBERG-HOHENZOLLERN" in the same yellow font. The housing brands did not have to be used in the district and city of Lindau. From January 1, 1950, “Notopfer Berlin” applied to the entire Federal Republic of Germany.
The collecting area is closed philatelically. The Association of German Philatelists has its own working group on this topic.

Postal stationery
The definitive stamps designed by Professor Jonynas were also used for the most common postcard postage levels. There were a total of six different main editions. From October 3 to December 31, 1949, these postcards could also be sent from the other federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany. All postcards were produced in the Franz Burda (today: Hubert Burda Media ) print shop in Offenburg .
