Vytautas Kazimieras Jonynas

Vytautas Kazimieras Jonynas (born March 10, 1907 in Ūdrija ( Kalvarija district ), now Rajongemeinde Alytus ; † December 4, 1997 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian artist. He worked as a book illustrator, graphic artist, painter, sculptor, stained glass artist, poster and furniture designer. In the period after the Second World War he designed most of the stamp issues for the French occupation zone in Germany.

Life

From 1923 to 1929 he studied at the Kaunas Art School in Kaunas .

Jonynas lived in the spa town of Druskininkai and then in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, in the pension of the Center for Gerontology and Rehabilitation of the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine . In 1944 he was supposed to leave his homeland Lithuania and emigrated to the west. He settled in Germany and in 1952 in the USA.
