AN / APG-73

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The AN / APG-73 is an airborne radar , which from the US Corporation Hughes Aircraft (now part of Raytheon ) was produced.

description

The APG-73 is essentially a further development of the AN / APG-65 and is also designed for use on the F / A-18C / D and E / F Hornet . The antenna and the traveling wave tubes were taken over from the APG-65. The transmitters , the exciter and the computer components are new . The latter were taken over from the AN / APG-70 of the F-15 Eagle and can perform up to 60 million complex operations per second, which can later be increased to 80 million. The interface was modified in order to be able to install an AESA antenna with little effort in the future (this then results in the AN / APG-79 ). Furthermore, the SAR mode has been improved and various modifications have been made to improve the performance of the radar in the reconnaissance role. Further improvements were made to the energy supply, which is now more reliable and has an efficiency level of 85% (APG-65: 72%). A total of 932 systems were delivered, the last in 2006.
