Entrance rotunda

The AOK building in the Hamburg district of Borgfelde was built between 1924 and 1925 and is a listed building .

Structure and location

East wing

The plans for the brick- clad building in the style of brick expressionism come from the Hamburg architects Distel & Grubitz .

The three wings of the five-storey house are arranged in such a way that an H-shaped floor plan results. A two-storey, semi-oval entrance pavilion is in front of the middle wing , the second storey is set back a little. On the ground floor, this part of the building is structured by pilaster strips with a triangular cross-section . Eight steps lead to the entrance, which is slightly above street level. The entrance pavilion corresponds to a similar semi-oval - there one-storey - part of the building on the back of the house.

The side wings are accessible through separate, pointed arched entrances - this motif is repeated in a large, pointed window above the entrance. Triangular oriels that extend up to the fourth floor adorn the side wings, the floors of which are partially separated by cornices, giving the building an accentuated horizontal structure.

Two reliefs in the entrance symbolize care for young people and care for old age; they come from the Hamburg sculptor Ludwig Kunstmann .

The AOK building in Borgfelde is on the corner property at Bethesdastraße / Burgstraße. The street front of Bethesdastraße adjoins its west side and the courtyard of the Burgstraße school to the south .

history

Day care center in the building

The AOK building in Hamburg-Borgfelde was built between 1924 and 1925. Most of the building was intended for residential use. The AOK Hamburg office with customer counters was located on the ground floor of the entrance rotunda. Examination and treatment rooms were located on the first floor.

The building was damaged in the Second World War ; unlike most of the pre-war buildings in Borgfelde, it could be repaired. The original hipped roof was replaced by a flat roof during the reconstruction . The former ticket hall had been empty since the mid-1990s until a day care center for the Pestalozzi Foundation Hamburg was set up there in 2009 . In addition to this facility, the Pestalozzi Foundation Hamburg has been maintaining an open meeting place for people with a mental illness as part of outpatient social psychiatry (ASP) there since 2014.
