APL Logistics is a global logistics service provider with 140 branches in 55 countries.
The company emerged from America's oldest shipping company , the US-based American President Lines . As part of a merger, APL was taken over in 1997 by Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines , one of the five largest groups in the areas of container shipping , global logistics and supply chain management . APL Logistics operates today as a global supply chain management service provider within the group.
APL Logistics Deutschland is the German subsidiary that has existed since 1995 and is headquartered in Hamburg .
Until 2015, APL Logistics was part of the Neptune Orient Lines group, one of the five largest groups in the areas of container shipping, global logistics and supply chain management.
In 2015, the Japanese logistics service provider Kintetsu World Express (KWE) took over APL Logistics from Neptune Orient Lines (NOL).
history
- In 1980, APL founded American Consolidation Services (ACS) to improve the profitability of the merchandise management chains with consolidation services.
- In 1985, APL Distribution Service was founded to take account of the growing range of products beyond the mere distribution of goods.
- In 1996 another reorganization took place. APL sold APL Distribution Services and founded Intermodal Management Services (IMS).
- In 1999, ACS put the industry's first internet-based order and shipment tracking system into operation.
- In 2001 NOL merged its logistics companies to form the APL Logistics Group. In Europe, APL Logistics took over 51% of the German import and warehouse company Mare Logistik & Spedition GmbH.
- In 2002, APL Logistics took over the German logistics specialist for household and electrical appliances FSG.
- Since 2004, the focus of expansion has been in the Mediterranean area and in Central and Eastern Europe.
- 2015 Takeover by the Japanese logistics service provider Kintetsu World Express (KWE)
