APUD

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

APUD ( A mine P recursor U ptake and D ecarboxylation), the outdated name for endocrine- active cells that are outside of the endocrine organs in the epithelia are other organ systems. Their appointment was made due to their capacity to absorb amino acids and decarboxylation , the more biogenic amines such as serotonin to form. All cells of the APUD come from the neural crest . Today we know that not all endocrine-disrupting cells take up amines, so the name Diffuse Neuroendocrine System (DNES) is preferred.

The concept comes from Anthony GE Pearse (1966, named 1969).
