The AN / AQS-13 is an active and passive working diving sonar for use by helicopters . It has been produced by the US company Bendix Corporation since 1960 .

description

The AQS-13 is the most widely used diving sonar in the western NATO navies. It was originally used by SH-3H Sea King helicopters , but a variant for the SH-60F Sea Hawk has existed for some time . The system is to be replaced by the AN / AQS-22 .

The system has been revised several times over the years. While the first model weighed 230 kg and had a cable length of 225 meters, the current version (AN / AQS-13F) weighs only 180 kg and has a 480 m long cable. A special variant for the German Navy is called AN / AQS-18 and represents a scaled-down version of the AQS-13F.

The system has a large number of operating modes to be able to operate even under difficult conditions, for example a digital MTI filter that can be used to suppress immobile or very slow sources of interference. Furthermore, signals from actively transmitting sonoboys can also be processed.
