Armenian Standard Code for Information Interchange
Armenian Standard Code for Information Interchange ( ARMSCII ) is a character set used to encode the Armenian alphabet in computer systems .
The character encoding is defined by the Armenian National Standard 166-97. ARMSCII only uses a single byte for coding. The international character set standard Unicode completely replaces the national standard ARMSCII.
The following variants are defined:
- ARMSCII-7, described in AST 34.005, is a 7-bit code that does not contain any Latin letters.
- ARMSCII-8, described in AST 34.002, is an 8-bit coding as an extension of the ASCII character set.
- ARMSCII-8a, described in AST 34.002, is an alternative 8-bit coding as an extension of the ASCII character set.
ARMSCII-8 is intended for use on Unix and Windows computer systems, and for the exchange of information on the WWW and by e-mail .
ARMSCII-8a is intended for use on DOS and Mac computer systems.
