The ASSV Letmathe (officially: Allgemeine Spiel- und Sportverein Letmathe 1898 eV ) is a sports club from Iserlohn in the Sauerland Märkisches Kreis . The first soccer team played in the highest Westphalian amateur league for seven years.

history

The association was founded on October 16, 1898 as TV Westfalia Letmathe by dissatisfied members of Letmather TV 1877 . A football division was established during the 1900s. In 1911 the short-lived FC Letmathe was founded. After the end of the First World War , members of the two associations founded today's ASSV Letmathe. The footballers' home ground was initially the sports field in Ostfeld from 1925 and the Waldstadion from 1964 . In terms of sport, the ASSV played in the second-class 1st district class in South Westphalia in the 1930s .

After the end of the Second World War , the Letmath footballers were promoted to the state league in 1949 , which was the highest amateur league at the time. The decision was made by a 1-0 play-off win in neutral Hamm against TuS Bad Salzuflen . A year later, the team qualified for the single-track national league and reached eighth place there in the 1951/52 season . After a league reform, the national league continued to play five tracks from 1952. In 1956, the team missed the qualification for the newly created Association League Westphalia and continued to play fourth class. In 1960 the ASSV rose from the regional league.

Only in 1971 did the Letmathers return to the national league and were able to hold the division until 1976. In the following years the club slipped down to the district B league. After a short Bezirksligaintermezzo in the 1994/95 season succeeded in 1998 the renewed promotion to the district league. From there, the team was relegated again in 2005 and has been playing in the district league since its promotion in 2015.
