ATS Automation Tooling Systems is a Canadian manufacturer of automation technology products . The company was founded in 1978 by Klaus Woerner, who immigrated from Germany to Canada in 1974. By taking over existing companies, ATS has been expanding its presence, particularly in Germany, since 2010. The German companies taken over include Sortimat (2010), IWK Verpackungstechnik (2013), the former process automation division of M + W (2014) and KMW (2018).
