Alpine Club Card
Alpine club cards (often only AV cards for short ) are detailed special cards for summer and winter mountaineers (alpinists and ski tourers). Most of them have a scale of 1: 25,000, individual sheets 1: 50,000 and 1: 100,000.
The issuing of its own maps has been a task of the Alpine Club since 1865 . In the cartography of the DAV ( German Alpine Association ) and ÖAV ( Austrian Alpine Association ) around 70 different high mountain maps are currently kept up to date. Individual map sheets of the Alpine region or other interesting high mountain areas of the world are also being produced again and again. Since 2007, new map sheets of the Bavarian Alps have been published in cooperation with the State Office for Digitization, Broadband and Surveying Bavaria ; these sheets partially overlap considerably with the traditional maps (Wetterstein, Karwendel, Berchtesgaden Alps). All 22 Bavarian maps were published in mid-2013.
The reason for the issuance of their own maps by the two associations is still today to supplement the range of more or less good official maps of the high mountains with special large-scale maps. This applies above all to the Austrian Alpine region, which is the classic work area of the Alpine Club sections. There is no real official map series 1: 25,000, so that the Alpine Club closes an important gap in the map offer.

The special features of the AV maps are their large scale (usually 1: 25,000), their high level of accuracy and their great wealth of detail in the terrain representation of the high mountains (rock, rubble, glacier, etc.). The equidistance of the contour lines is 20 meters on most maps. The mountaineer should be able to orientate himself well using the maps of the Alpine Club, both on the hiking trails and in the open terrain, i.e. away from the marked routes. In addition, there is a map sheet division ( sheet cut ) tailored for mountaineers and hikers with overlapping map sheets and the focus on the high mountain regions. Map names and altitude information (altitude notes) are set more densely than in comparable maps.

- WEG (red) with path markings
- WEG and SKI with trail and ski tours
- BY (Bavarian Alps) with trail, ski and sometimes snowshoe routes
