A family

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Família (Eng .: The Family) is an ensemble of three bronze sculptures by the Angolan sculptor Jorge Melício .

The work, committed to hyperrealism , was commissioned for the Câmara Municipal of Lisbon and the Junta de Freguesia of the municipality of São João de Deus and was published on July 17, 2001 in the Jardim Fernando Pessoa , behind the Assembleia Municipal building on the main street Avenida de Roma in Lisbon inaugurated.

Melício created an ideal-typical representation of a family of four: the mother sitting on a chair and looking over her right shoulder, the father explaining to the son how to ride a bike, and the daughter on a small stool, surprised by a butterfly resting on hers right hand. After Melício had worked with stone for a long time, he chose bronze as the material because it was "less sensitive to the effects of time and human hands".
