A Lover's Question is a rhythm and blues song from 1958 that became a hit with Clyde McPhatter . Brook Benton and Jimmy T. Williams wrote the song .
The song was McPhatter's first top 10 hit after leaving The Drifters . Benton sang the demo version of the song and song producer Clyde Otis played it to Jerry Wexler and Ahmet Ertegun , who loved the song and released it on Atlantic Records . On the B-side of the single is I Can't Stand Up Alone .

In the song, the singer asks himself various questions that move a lover. Is she loyal, (I'd like to know when she's not with me, if she's still true to me) , she feels the same (I'd like to know when we're kissing, does she feel just what I feel) , he would also like to know where the answer can be found (Oh, tell me where, the answer lies, is it in her kiss or in her eyes) .
Chart successes
The song reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number one on Billboard's rhythm and blues charts for a week. The 1970 cover version of country singer Del Reeves reached number 14 on Billboard Country Songs ; by Jacky Ward 1978 third place in the same charts.
