The Aabach-Weiher is located in the southeastern part of the municipality of Horgen in a cut that the Aabach has formed on its way from the terrace to Lake Zurich. The water power of the creek has been used for centuries, mentioned is a mill, since 1608 a sawmill and later also clay rollers from the brickworks in Käpfnach .

The earth dam, designed by Franz Allemann, is 14 meters high and dams the Aabach into a 310 meter long pond. The small power station he fed in Käpfnach has also been in operation since 1883. For the song festival in June 1883, the first electrical lighting was put into operation in the Käpfnach festival hut. Today the small power station supplies around 300 households with electricity.

The 125-year-old pressure pipeline was rehabilitated in 2010 by pulling in plastic pipes after repeated water pipe bursts. Over a length of just over 2.5 kilometers, the line overcomes a height difference of 125 meters before it reaches the turbine in the turbine house.

Annual electricity production amounts to 1.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity, which corresponds to one percent of consumption in the municipality of Horgen.
