In the landscape that was formerly characterized by agriculture and viticulture, several large residential projects have been realized.

Klosterweg

The earliest traces of human presence are Roman brick fragments under a grave that was discovered in 1877 in Bätpur . The first recorded written evidence is a mention of goods belonging to the Chürlubenz brothers from Käpfnach around 1280. In 1341 the mill on the Aabach was transferred to the Kappel monastery . Its former name Chephin and the word Aa for Bach have been preserved through several phonetic changes in the current place name. There has been evidence of a brickworks located on the lake since the 14th century and was repeatedly put on record in the following times. It was not until 1963 that the last brick buildings disappeared.

Käpfnerweg

Between the 15th and 19th centuries, pilgrims on their journey to Einsiedeln chose the route via the small Käpfnach around the large towns of Wädenswil and Horgen because of the rivalries during the old Zurich War and, from 1523, as a result of the conflicts between the Reformation and Counter-Reformation in Switzerland to evade. Only with the construction of the Zurichseebahn on the left bank and the expansion of the road network was the route across the lake increasingly abandoned. Today only the house and street names monastery , monastery path and pilgrim path remind of this time.

Old mine with coal magazine

Käpfnach was very important due to the mining in the Käpfnach mine . Molasse coal was mined here for over 130 years. Infrastructure buildings and miners' apartments were built around the mine. Käpfnach made an important contribution to the energy supply, especially in the 1850s to 1870s and in the crisis times of the First and Second World Wars . The building materials industry gained a foothold in Käpfnach, from 1851 through the asphalt factory of Alfred Brändli, then through the cement factory as a subsidiary of the mine. Both had to cease operations in the course of the 20th century.

The water power of the Aabach not only operated the mill already mentioned, but also a sawmill from 1608 and later clay rollers in the brickworks. Since 1883, the stream has been dammed by a 14 m high earth dam built by Franz Allemann. In June of the same year, the first electrical lighting was put into operation for the singing festival in the Käpfnach festival hut. Today the stream supplies electricity to around 300 households in a small power station.
