Aachen Christmas Market
The Aachen Christmas market , which takes place annually during Advent , was founded in the 1970s. The Printenmarkt , as it used to be called, was only located around the Elisenbrunnen , whereas today the Christmas market takes place on the Aachener Markt and the Katschhof , otherwise there would not be enough space.
With an annual number of more than 1.5 million visitors from large parts of Europe, the Aachen Christmas market is one of the larger in Germany , although in 2008 it was only attended by 117 exhibitors and restaurateurs .
As a major event, it takes place every year in Aachen's old town around the Aachen Cathedral and the town hall , where the backdrop creates a special atmosphere.
Culinary specialties are above all the Aachener Printen , gingerbread , dominoes , speculoos and marzipan breads .
