The Danish Aalborg Værft (Aalborg Shipyard) existed in Ålborg from 1912 to 1988 .

history

The company was founded in 1912 by the Stuhr brothers as P.Ph. Stuhrs Masking og Skibsbyggeri (P.Ph. Stuhrs Maschinen- und Schiffbau). The shipyard was focused from the start on the industrial machinery and steel shipbuilding and began after the end of World War I with the production of ship boilers .

In the 1920s, the company ran into financial difficulties in the wake of the global shipbuilding crisis, whereupon the Aalborg municipality took over the company in 1927 and converted the shipyard into A / S Aalborg Skibsværft (Aalborg Shipyard AG).

In the 1930s the company then traded as A / S Aalborg Masking og Skibsbyggeri (Aalborg-Maschinen- und Schiffbau AG). In 1937 the J. Lauritzen shipping company took over the shipyard.

In the following decades, the shipyard developed into the largest employer in the region. From 1968 the work of the shipyards in Ålborg, Helsingør and Frederikshavn was brought together under the umbrella of the joint coordination company DAN-Værft A / S , and on January 1, 1987 Aalborg Værft, Frederikshavn Værft and Helsingør Skibsværft, which from 1983 only acted as a repair shop merged under the umbrella of the Lauritzen Group to form the Danyard .

The following year, the company in Aalborg closed its doors, but several follow-up companies (Danyard Aalborg, Aalborg Boilers, a steel construction company and other subsequent users) emerged from it. In 2005 all buildings and facilities on the former shipyard were demolished except for one machine shop. The dry dock will continue to be operated as a repair yard by Danyard Aalborg.
