Sengai Aaliyan

Sengai Aaliyan ( actually Kanthaia Kunarasa ; born January 25, 1941 in Jaffna ; † February 28, 2016 ) was a Tamil writer from Sri Lanka . He also served as the Registrar of Jaffna University.

Life

Kunarasa was born in Jaffna in 1941. He graduated from Peradeniya University and later received his PhD in geography (land use and settlements) from Jaffna University. In addition to being a prolific writer, he was a well-known critic in the literary world. He has written more than 30 novels and three works in the field of fictional history. Kunarasa has received awards from the Sahithiya Mandala more than six times for his novels and short stories. Some of his stories have been translated and published in Sinhala weeklies such as Silumina, Vivarana, Ravaya etc. One of his novels, Yanai , has been translated into English under the title The Beast .
