Aaron Corthen (* 9. May 1926 in Wardell , Missouri ; † 24. February 2004 in Chicago , Illinois ), known as AC Reed , was an American blues - saxophonist and singer.

Reed grew up in Illinois. Because of his fondness for the big band sound, he decided to learn to play the saxophone.

During the war years he came to Chicago , where he performed with the likes of Earl Hooker and Willie Mabon . From 1956 he romped with Dennis "Long Man" Binder , who had previously played with Ike Turner , through the southwest of the USA.

In the 1960s he accompanied Hooker, Lillian Offitt and Ricky Allan on their recordings. Own singles during this time were "This Little Voice", "Come on Home", "Mean Cop", "I Stay Mad", "I'd Rather Fight than Switch", "My Baby Is Fine", "Talkin '" Bout My Friends ”and“ Things I Want You to Do ”, which Reed recorded for various record labels .

From 1967 he played in the band of Buddy Guy . In 1969 they were traveling in Africa. In 1970 they played with Junior Wells as the opening act for the Rolling Stones .

In 1977 Reed left Guy and Wells and a little later joined Albert Collins , whom he accompanied on his first five albums. He also began to make more solo recordings again. In 1998 he received the Living Blues Award . With Casey Jones he had his own label "Ice Cube Records". With his band "The Spark Plugs" he was active in the Chicago blues scene until his death.

AC Reed died of cancer in February 2004.
