Aaron James Fotheringham (born November 8, 1991 in Las Vegas ) is an American wheelchair athlete and so far the only person who can manage a backflip , a double backflip and a front flip in a wheelchair .

Fotheringham, who was born with spina bifida and was unable to walk after three hip operations, began mimicking the tricks of BMX bikers and skaters in his wheelchair at the age of eight . In the summer of 2006, the then fourteen-year-old managed the backflip for the first time, a kind of backward somersault on wheels. On August 26, 2010, after many unsuccessful attempts, he succeeded in the first double backflip in a wheelchair.

Fotheringham's equipment includes a helmet and knee and elbow protection as well as a special suspension wheelchair. In the film Vorstadtkrokodile he can be seen as a double for Fabian Halbig in a chase. Fotheringham is also one of the cast on the television series Nitro Circus .

Fotheringham performed at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Summer Paralympics at the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro.
