Abū l-Makārim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abū l-Makārim ( Arabic أبو المكاريم, also al-Makarim ; * before 1160; † after 1190) was a Copt and writer.

In Cairo he wrote a "History of the Churches and Monasteries of Egypt" in Arabic , in which he compiled all available news for every church and every monastery in Egypt (including Nubia ), on the one hand from older writings, on the other hand from his own knowledge or from hearsay. An appendix, perhaps from a different pen, deals with Asia and Europe. The "story" of Abū l-Makārim was previously ascribed to the Armenian Abū Sālih .
