The Abai Qunanbajuly Literature Museum ( Russian Литературно-мемориальный дом-музей Абая ) is one of the four major museums in the Kazakh city ​​of Semei .

history

The Literature Museum was opened in 1940 in honor of the Kazakh poet, writer and thinker Abai Qunanbajuly . The memorial museum was initially housed in a villa . Over time, a larger museum building became necessary. The museum was then set up in the house of Russian merchants in the center of Semei. On the occasion of Abai Qunanbajuly's 150th birthday in 1995, the museum was expanded to include a building that opened on August 11, 1995. A new building with ten rooms was added to the old building from the 19th century with seven halls. The museum also has an old mosque and next to it the Koran school where Abai Qunanbajuly was taught as a child.
