Abaris Books

Abaris Books is an American book publisher based in Norwalk (Connecticut) .

The publishing house was founded in New York in 1970 by the German-American entrepreneur and art historian Walter L. Strauss (1922–1988) and specializes in art history publications. It is named after Abaris the Hyperborean .

The publishing program includes the catalog raisonné of the drawings by Albrecht Dürer ( The Complete Drawings of Albrecht Dürer , 1974) and the drawings from the Rembrandt School ( Drawings of the Rembrandt School , 1979 ff.). The largest publishing company consists of the publication of the multi-volume corpus work The Illustrated Bartsch , of which over 100 large-format volumes have already been published.
