Benjamin Daniel Greene (born December 29, 1793 in Demerara , British Guiana , † October 14, 1862 in Boston , Massachusetts ) was an American doctor , naturalist and botanist . He dealt mainly with seed plants . Its author abbreviation is BDGreene .

Greene grew up in Boston , Massachusetts , where he attended the Boston Latin School . He graduated from Harvard University and Litchfield Law School . In 1815 he was admitted to the bar in Suffolk County , but then studied medicine in Edinburgh and Paris . He earned his MD in Edinburgh in 1821 , but subsequently spent most of his time studying science. He put together an extensive herbarium and a valuable botanical library.

Greene was a founding member of the Boston Society of Natural History in 1830 and was its first president until 1837. He bequeathed her his herbarium and botanical library in 1857 and, after his death, a substantial sum of $ 9,000 or $ 10,000.

In 1832 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Greene had been married to Margaret Morton Quincy since 1826, the couple remained childless.
